NH GOP Victory Offices Need Volunteers

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

The NH GOP Victory Offices are now up and running across the state, and there is a critical need for volunteers to help out with the effort so we can sweep the Democrats out of office in November. Said offices are located in Bedford, Nashua, Salem, Keene, Stratham, and Laconia.

They will be running phone banks everyday and need volunteers to come in and help man the office, make survey calls right into their own towns, help with mailings, and help go door to door.

If you can help out with this effort, contact the person listed below at the office that would be most convenient for you to volunteer at:

Bedford Office – Simon Thomson – simon@nhgop. org or 415-0236

Nashua Office – Nick Pappas – nick@nhgop.org or 415-0279

Stratham Office – Caroline Gilger – caroline@nhgop. org or 415-0278

Salem Office – Bianca Garcia – Bianca@nhgop. org or 512-0588

Keene Office – Annie Kasper – annie@nhgop. org or 415-0012

Laconia Office – Mike Ciccio – mikec@nhgop. org or 712-2301

Also, Republican candidates can put their signs up at offices, drop off materials, and local candidates can make calls right into their district.

If you need further information please call the nearest victory office or contact BJ Perry directly at 603-225-9341 or bj@nhgop.org

Benson’s Wild Animal – New book by Lynne Ober

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

“Benson’s Wild Animal” is the new book published by local author, Lynne Ober. Benson’s Wild Animal Farm, also known as the Strangest Farm on Earth enchanted generations of visitors and still lives today in the memories of former visitors and employees. Located in Hudson, New Hampshire, Benson’s Wild Animal Farm originated as a quarantine and training farm for exotic animals brought into the country for zoos and circuses. Because Hudson residents wanted to visit and see the animals, John T. Benson opened his farm to the public and it grew from there.

The book contains memories and photos from the past. What was it like growing up on a zoo? Bob Lovejoy shared his memories with the author. What do people remember about working on this fascinating farm? The stories are warm and show enticing memories of this magical place.

Closed in 1987 it became a tug of war for ownership between the state and Arthur Provencher. Amid lawsuits and eminent domain takings is the sad story of the life of this property after the animals were gone, but it has a happy ending as Hudson recently opened this beautiful property as a town park.

To buy your own copy of the book go to www.lynneober.org It makes a wonderful summer read.

Lynne Ober is a member of the Hudson Historical Society, the Hudson School Board, the Hudson Old Home Days Committee, the Hudson VFW Post, and a Trustee of the Hudson Library. She is also an editor for Area News Group. Lynne is a NH State Representative serving Hudson and Litchfield. Lynne currently resides in Hudson.
